The first phase of the tram line, between Cibali and Alibeyköy Pocket Bus Terminal, was opened on 1 January 2021. With the completion of the remaining two stations currently under construction, the extension to Eminönü is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the surrounding area.

The 10.2-kilometre double-track line, with a capacity of 25,000 passengers per hour in each direction, consists of 14 stations. In addition to the construction of the railway line and stations, the project scope includes the construction of the tram depot and maintenance workshop facilities, the supply and commissioning of all electromechanical systems, and the procurement of rolling stock.
