At a signing ceremony held at the British Consulate General in Istanbul, the loan agreement for the Yerköy–Kayseri High-Speed Rail (HSR) Line was signed. Kemi Badenoch, the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Business and Trade, stated that the financing agreement for the electrified high-speed railway line is a strong example of the close relationship between the two countries. Hüsnü Akhan, Chairman of the Board of Doğuş Construction, also attended the ceremony.

Under the financing agreement, UK Export Finance (UKEF), together with the export credit agencies of Austria, Italy, and Poland, as well as the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC), will provide €1.2 billion in financing for the Yerköy–Kayseri section of the Ankara–Yerköy–Kayseri High-Speed Rail Line. Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) will act as the mandated lead arranger for the financing.

The financing package consists of €1.027 billion to be provided by the export credit agencies through UKEF’s partnership with Austria’s OeKB, Italy’s SACE, and Poland’s KUKE, together with an additional €220 million to be provided by ICIEC.

The Yerköy–Kayseri High-Speed Rail Project, undertaken by the Doğuş Construction–Çelikler–Özkar Joint Venture, aims to establish a 142-kilometre double-track, electrified, and signalled mixed-use railway line for both passenger and freight transportation, designed for speeds of 250 km/h.

Once the line enters service, travel time between Yerköy and Kayseri will be reduced from 3.5 hours on the existing conventional railway to less than one hour. Travel time between Ankara and Kayseri will decrease from 7 hours to 2 hours, while journeys between Istanbul and Kayseri will be shortened to 5 hours and 15 minutes.

In addition to increasing passenger and freight capacity and supporting economic growth, the new railway line is expected to reduce net carbon emissions by 6,500 tons annually along the route.
