Tunnel Boring Machine reached its 1st station on May 17, 2017 as part of the construction of “Sofia Metro Extension Project Line III, Lot 4” that was tendered by Metropolitan EAD and contracted to Doğuş Construction-Via Group Construct-Ultrastroy Joint Venture on September 28, 2015. Tunnel excavation was started at entry shaft and executed with a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) with diameter 9.39 meters. Once the TBM is overhauled, its next move forward the 2nd station is expected to be on June 20, 2017. Beginning from entry shaft, the TBM will pass through 6 stations (MC14, MC12, MC11, MC10, MC09, MC08) and excavate 5.978 meters of 6.708 meters long tunnel until it reaches to exit shaft. Estimated time of completion of the project is the 2nd half of 2019.
