The first tram test drive of Istanbul's and yet Turkey's first ‘catenary-free' tramline which passes from the core of Historic Peninsula throughout the coast of unique Golden Horn, took place on March 20, 2019 with a grand ceremony.

Doğuş Construction had signed the contract of “Eminönü-Alibeyköy Tramline Construction, Electromechanical Works and Delivery of Rolling Stocks” Project on October 13, 2016 which was tendered with an approximate contract value of 153 Million Euros by the Head of Rail System Department of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality on June 29, 2016.

“Eminönü-Alibeyköy Tramline” Project is one of the most prestigious infrastructure projects of Istanbul which involves the construction of approximately 10,2 km tramline, electromechanical works of ‘catenary-free' double track mass transit system with 14 passenger stations which is applied for the first time in Turkey as well as delivery of 30 Turkish rolling stocks with energy supply system.

The project also includes additional works of Eminönü, Zeytinburnu and Güngören stations as part of the T1 (Kabataş-Bağcılar) Tramline and is planned to be completed by the end of 2020.
